Recognizing excellence

On Monday, October 13, Oconee County Schools took a tremendous step forward.  In the last few weeks we have celebrated the success of our students and our schools through measures of academic achievement, rankings, and recognitions at the state and national levels.  Yet, the October regular session of the Oconee County Board of Education included a celebration that rivals those rankings and recognitions—the beginning of the Oconee Commitment to Service Program (OCSP).

The OCSP is an employee recognition initiative developed for and by district employees.  The program recognizes employees who go far beyond the call of duty by doing more than others expect.  The recognition is meant to target and recognize the human element of Oconee County Schools.  Modeled after the teacher of the year process, OCSP asks current employees to nominate their peers each month in a selected category.  Every area of Oconee County Schools is represented as each part carries an equal importance to the overall success of our schools.  The individual award provided at the BOE regular session is named The Pursuit of Excellence Award.

The first-ever recipient was Mr. Robert Harris.  Mr. Robert, as he is affectionately known by his students and peers, is a bus driver for the students of Colham Ferry Elementary School.  In addition to the recognition by his colleagues, Mr. Robert also received a $50 gift card provided by Peach State Federal Credit Union and a free night’s stay at SpringHill Suites.  Oconee County Schools appreciates these generous partners and their support in recognizing the people that make our system great!

Congratulations again, Mr. Robert, on this well-deserved recognition!  We are proud to work beside you each day.

Next month will see Oconee County Schools recognize our service employees.  As has been stated earlier, each month will spotlight a different part of our outstanding family.  The chart below denotes the months each group will be eligible to be nominated for recognition by their peers.
